The Huge Cost of Not Following Your Dreams

If achieving your dream is important, then why do so many people insist on living sad and mediocre lives? Is it because achieving their dreams requires a lot of work? Is it because their dream is not realistic? I'm not even sure what the term realistic means for most people. How can people even say a dream is unrealistic when they haven't even tried working on it?
